Children

Children can experience the same emotional distress and mood disorders as an adult. Many people overlook issues that children have because childhood tends to be viewed as carefree and fun, but this is not the case for all children. Some children may have a harder time dealing with life stressors and parents may need additional support to help the child. Common reasons children go to therapy:

Anxiety Depression ADHD
Conduct disorder Adjustment issues School issues
Self-esteem issues Isolation Sleep disturbances
Suicidal thoughts Self-harm

Adolescents/Teenagers

Teenagers struggle with different issues than adults, which holds a whole new set of challenges. Allowing teenagers to be a part of their therapy encourages them to learn new skills and find a sense of independence. It is a safe place where they can be heard without being judged or criticized. Therapy for adolescents/teens can help improve their overall well-being, relationships with others, and functioning on a day to day basis. Common reasons adolescents/teens go to therapy:

Anxiety Depression Behavior problems
Substance abuse issues Stress School issues
Social issues Grief Trauma
Suicidal thoughts Self-harm Legal issues
Struggles with peer or family relationships Life Transitions Development of healthy self-esteem

Adults

Despite the stigma that only “crazy people” seek help from a therapist, many individuals have discovered the value of therapy for various personal and social issues. Starting therapy and embarking on your journey can help find a sense of balance in your life. Working with your therapist in a collaborative relationship will help gain awareness of thoughts, emotions, and behaviors, challenge any obstacle that may be hindering emotional well-being, learn and implement new approaches to promote life changes, and set personal goals to work towards desired change. Common reasons adults go to therapy:

Anxiety Depression Mood disorders
Emotional distress Stress Adjustment issues
Looking for increased life satisfaction Grief and loss Trauma
Suicidal thoughts Self-esteem issues Relationship issues
Major life changes Parenting/family issues Addiction

LPC, LCDC & CCTP

I am a Midland based Licensed Professional Counselor and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor and have served individuals, adolescents, and children in a therapeutic capacity for almost 10 years. I graduated from Texas Tech University with a bachelor’s degree in Community, Family, and Addiction Services and the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Psychology.

I have worked with individuals struggling with addiction where I furthered my knowledge of the disease and the various hurdles that come with addiction and recovery. I’ve worked with children and adolescents where I gained therapeutic knowledge to deal with various degrees of abuse and trauma. I have also worked with individuals on family and relationship issues, job and relational stressors, anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, and overall emotional distress.

I am often asked why I became a therapist and if I enjoy what I do. The answer is simple: I love my job, and I love watching people find the change they have been searching for. I believe that everyone can change because I have witnessed it time and time again. Seeing my clients’ growth increases my passion to help others and facilitate the changes they want to see in their own life.
