Life’s struggles can’t be faced alone
Christine Hall, LPC, LCDC & CCTP

Coping with life can be a difficult concept, though in theory, it seems easy.

Something bad happens; you get over it and move on. Unfortunately, life is not that simple. Regardless of how well you think you are prepared for the future and what life may hold, you will never be completely sure of what is around the corner.

People encounter different obstacles, and no one completely understands what it is like to walk in someone else’s shoes. However, the common factor is the ability for everyone to get help.

The growth of social media and the idealization of what life should be like or is for others causes a sense of envy and even a void your own life. It is easy to look at social media and ask, “Why can’t I have that?” or “Why is their life so easy?

Nevertheless, it needs to be recognized that this is not reality. It is a false portrayal of their world. It is easier to make life seem perfect through a screen; however, what is really being faced day to day may be the complete opposite.

For those who struggle or who are unable or unwilling to continue hiding behind a false persona, it is vital to find a support system. Do not allow the fear of being judged or pitied hinder you from the steps you need to take to have a better, more enjoyable life.

The question is not how can you avoid difficult situations, but what are you going to choose to do about it. Seek out some sort of support, whether formal therapy or talking with a family member or friend.

It is crucial to find ways to cope with the issues you are facing. Trying to avoid difficulties or cope with issues alone will work for only a while before the inevitable breaking point is reached.
